Earlier this year, a new photography company, Geskus Photography Inc., was selected to take the school portraits, replacing the longtime vendor, Hockmeyer Studios. A selection committee made the choice based on substantially less-expensive pricing as well as good references from school districts that has employed, Geskus Photography, Inc.

As each school has now had their initial round of photo sessions with Geskus Photography, Inc., Keene School District opened a review of their performance. Parents offered their feedback and Keene School District met with Geskus Photography for discussion.

UPDATE: Attached you will find the official decision reached by Keene School District regarding Geskus Photography.

As a new parent (student at KHS) to the public school system I was attracted to the price of the pictures as they were much less expensive then what I was used to. However, I do not like the book format in which they were delivered - it made it very difficult to cut the pictures.

The price was good, but the quality is not as good as before and there was a lack of background choices. I am not a fan of just colored backgrounds. I miss my old background that I had for my son since kingergarten. Overall I would give them a 5 out of 10.

As a parent of 3 students in the school district, the price was just right. I appreciated that there were clear instructions on how to get a discount for the third child. I did not mind having to cut the photos from a book and it made for storing unused photos very easy. There was, however, an issue with the background for my third child. I chose to have the background the same for all 3 kids, but the third one was different. I called to inquire if it could simply be changed (green screen), but since that technology was not used my only option was to surrender the photos (which came out great just with the wrong background color)and hope the retake would be just as good. I didn't want to risk losing the great photo so I had to settle for mismatched backgrounds. An option to keep the mistake and have retakes done would have been appreciated.

We were very disaapointed with the quality of the photos. The color saturation and lighting was off on both sets and the paper quality was poor. I have one child who happily smiles for the camera any time and but my other child's picture looks like they didn't even try to get a decent smile out of her--in her previous 3 years, she's had great photos--beyond my expectations actually. Like many other parents I've heard from, we didn't even bother with retakes because of the overall poor quality of the product.

The price for the pictures was reasonable, however, I, personally, would be willing to pay a bit more for better quality. The quality was not crisp and clear like school photos from previous years. It wasn't necessarily blurry but with the quality of the photo paper and how noticeable the pixels were, I found the pictures(we did retakes) to be VERY POOR.

At first I was glad to see the very reasonable prices and the option to buy just one 8x10; it's all I want and I usually have to get a bunch of other stuff as well. When the pictures came, though, I was very disappointed. None of my three kids (one each in KHS, KMS and elementary, so it wasn't one bad day) turned out at all well, and not just their expressions, either. Off-center, odd coloring, shadows. I thought about sending them for re-take day, but all 3 of them found the original session unpleasant, so I decided not to. I'll be leaving last year's school pictures up another year. I don't think the price savings is worth it.

I was excited to see that the cost had gone down this year with a new vendor, but based on the quality, I would love to have our previous vendor return! Our first pictures had red dots on my daughter's face. I was also surprised at the lack of lighting in my daughter's first picture, along with her pose/smile, which just looked uncomfortable. We did retakes, and they actually turned out worse, both in lighting, pose and smile. She looked like a deer in headlights, and if that's the best shot they got, I can't imagine what the others looked like. i am not happy with the quality at all! I won't even be displaying what we received. It's money down the drain. We are using the Hockmeyer photo from last year. Please bring Hockmeyer back!

I feel you got what you paid for and since the price was cheap that is unfortunately what we got. My son who is in middle school said they weren't that good, they took pictures but never tried to get you to smile for real instead of a forced smile. He commented that the people taking the pictures weren't the nicest. We did have retakes taken hoping the picture would come out better, but they didn't.. We didn't like the choice of only colors, we were not impressed with the book format which made it extremely difficult to cut out. Maybe the book idea would be good if this pictures where perferated. I would rather spend a little more money and have a lot better quality. Please go back to the old company.

I liked that the price was less than past few years but I didn't think the, quality was great, seemed almost cloudy.

I was extremely disappointed into quality of the pictures that we received. They were completely digitized with the facial colors totally off. When comparing them to the photos from the year before, it was stunning to see the quality difference between the two. Please never use that company again.

We were also very disappointed with the quality of the Geskus photos. Between the awkward book format, the pixilated, oddly colored photos and the cheap quality of the paper, there really is nothing nice I can say about my son's photos this year. The photo doesn't even look like him because of the color issues. Very dissatisfied. I will be keeping the photo from Hockmeyer Studios in the frame this year which is really sad. I feel like Geskus has cost me a memory milestone. Please go back to Hockmeyer Studios because clearly saving a few dollars is not worth such a substandard quality product. Thank you.

While I appreciate the effort to find a better price, the quality was awful therefore the value was lost. The adage is true: "you get what you pay for". Both the original set that came home as well as the retakes were awful for a number of reasons. My daughter did not look comfortable or at ease and the editing was awful as was the color and the paper quality. In all it was a waste of money as we cant even frame or use the photos. Geskus has nerve claiming to be a professional photography company!! Please bring back Hockmeyer!! (If it isn't broken, don't fix it!!)

I have to express my extreme disappointment over the Photography Studio that did the school pictures this year. My daughter just came home with the RETAKE photos and I am floored. I came in the day of the retakes and showed the photographer the first set from the original day and said she isnt smiling- please make sure she smiles! If you know Annabell its not hard to make her laugh or smile. I was there and tho it was set up so I couldnt see her face, I was confident he must have caught at least one good shot since I heard the camera clicking and saw the flash go off several times. I cant believe looking at the photo that out of all the ones he took, THIS is what they sent home. I believe the packages were cheaper this year but I also see that we got what we paid for. While I appreciate the effort to find a better price, the quality was awful therefore the value was lost. In all it was a waste of money as we cant even frame or use the photos. Everything about this year's photos was cheap -- the quality of the photos, the quality of the paper, and quality of the presentation. Judging from reading the other comments, pretty much everybody would be willing to pay the higher price for a better product. These photos are memories that will never happen again. Let's make sure we get it right!
